JACC Behind the Scenes: A Yukata-Inspired Visit to Schliersee

On October 4th, three members of JACC took a day trip to Schliersee to meet Mae Rose, a kimono enthusiast.
When we arrived, Mae and her husband Tobi welcomed us very warmly and took us on a short hike to a viewpoint overlooking the Schliersee.
After that, they showed us around the town and told us a bit about its history before we arrived at their home.
There, Mae and Tobi invited us for afternoon green tea and some homemade pastries.
Their home felt like the perfect mix of cultures: traditional Bavarian decorations combined with lots of anime figures, making it feel like a dream place for any otaku, with my personal highlight being their Final Fantasy X collection.
After the tea, they showed us photo albums of their kimono collection, exhibitions, photo shoots and their time in Japan and gave us a tour of their home.

While browsing the photo albums, we planned the upcoming Yukata event and got a lot of helpful input. The most impressive part about the visit was Mae’s kimono and yukata collection, which includes over 200 pieces! She owns every colour and pattern imaginable, and every piece was beautiful in its own way.
As a small gift, Mae and Tobi gave us two figures from the anime KonoSuba. In the end, they accompanied us back to the train station.
